Sign a PDF
Draw your signature with a mouse, a trackpad or your finger, place it on the signature line and download the signed PDF. You can also type a date or your name next to it. The PDF and your signature stay in your browser and are never uploaded.
How to sign a PDF
Sign a PDF without uploading it
A lease, a consent form or an offer letter often only needs your signature on one line. Printing it, signing it and scanning it back takes longer than it should, and many online signing sites keep a copy of both the document and your signature. Here the PDF is opened in your browser, you draw your signature there, and the signed copy is made on your device. Nothing is sent to a server.
You can open one PDF at a time, up to 60 MB and 300 pages. Scanned forms work too: a scan is a picture of the page, and your signature goes on top of it like on any other page. A PDF that needs a password to open cannot be signed until the password is removed.
How to sign a PDF
Drop the PDF onto the box. The first page opens in the editor; use the arrows in the toolbar to reach the page with the signature line, and zoom in if the line is small. Then press Sign in the toolbar.
A pad opens with the words Draw your signature. Write your name the way you sign it, with a mouse, a trackpad or your finger. Clear wipes the pad if the first try is not right, and Cancel closes it without adding anything. When it looks right, press Place signature.
The signature appears in the middle of the page you are on, cut to the ink with a small margin. Drag it onto the signature line and pull its corner to make it bigger or smaller. A signature in the wrong place comes off with its remove button, or with the Delete key while it is selected, and Undo steps back through your last changes. When you are done, press Download. The signed copy is named after the original with -edited added, so lease.pdf becomes lease-edited.pdf, and the original file stays as it was.
Add the date, your name or initials
Many forms want a date or a printed name next to the signature. Switch to Add text, click where the text should go and type. You can pick sans, serif or mono, a size from 9 to 32, bold or regular, and near black, red or blue. Added text can be dragged into place like the signature.
For initials on every page, go to each page and press Sign again; every signature is drawn fresh and placed on the page you are on. The signature is added on top of the page, and the lines and text of the form show around the ink because the space around it is transparent.
A drawn signature, not a certificate
What you add here is a drawn signature, the same as signing a printout and scanning it. It is not a certificate-based digital signature: it does not prove who signed, and it does not show whether the file was changed afterwards. Many everyday documents only ask for a drawn signature. If the sender asks for a qualified or certified electronic signature, use the service they name.
The full PDF editor has the same Sign button, plus tools to change existing text and to rotate or delete pages. If the signed PDF is too large to email, compress PDF makes it smaller.
