Convert to and from PDF without uploading
Most online PDF converters work by uploading your file to a server, converting it there and sending the result back. Squishly does every conversion on this page inside your browser instead. Your images and PDFs are read from your device, converted on it and saved straight back to it, so contracts, ID scans and bank letters are never copied to someone else's computer.
The converters are free, need no account and add no watermark. They work on a computer or a phone, in a current version of Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari. The only things downloaded from our site are the parts of each tool, and they load only on the page that uses them.
Because the work happens on your device, the speed depends on your computer or phone, not on your internet connection, and there is no queue and no wait for an upload to finish. A few images or a short PDF are usually done in moments. A long PDF turned into images at 300 DPI takes longer, and the progress is shown page by page.
Which converter to use
To make a PDF from pictures, start with JPG to PDF. It takes JPG, PNG, WebP and HEIC, up to 30 images at a time, and puts each image on its own page: A4, US Letter or a page the shape of the picture. PNG to PDF explains how screenshots and transparent images are handled, image to PDF covers mixed sets of formats and phone photos of paper documents, and HEIC to PDF is for iPhone photos, which go straight into the PDF with no JPG step.
To turn a PDF into pictures, use PDF to JPG or PDF to PNG. Both draw each page at 150 or 300 DPI, convert every page or a range you type, and save single images or a ZIP. JPG gives smaller files and suits scans and photos, while PNG keeps text and lines perfectly sharp. PDF to image explains how to choose between the two. One PDF can have up to 300 pages and be up to 60 MB. To get the words out of a PDF rather than pictures of its pages, PDF to text saves the text of every page in a plain .txt file, up to 500 pages, or lets you copy it in one click. For a scanned PDF, where the pages are pictures, OCR PDF reads the words in English or Spanish and gives you a searchable PDF and a .txt file, up to 50 pages.
Once you have the PDF, the other PDF tools take over: merge PDF joins several files into one, split PDF pulls pages out, compress PDF makes the file smaller, and the PDF editor changes text, adds a signature and rotates or removes pages.
Why there is no PDF to Word here
PDF to Word is one of the most searched conversions, and we leave it out on purpose. A PDF stores where each letter sits on the page, not paragraphs, tables and headings. Turning that back into an editable Word document means guessing the structure, and the guess is only good with heavy software running on a server. Done in a browser, the result is a document with broken lines, floating text boxes and tables that fall apart.
Running that software on a server would mean uploading your file, which is the one thing Squishly never does. The same goes for Word, Excel and PowerPoint to PDF: an exact copy needs the fonts and the layout engine of the program that made the file. Word, Excel and PowerPoint can all save a file as a PDF themselves, which keeps the layout exactly as you see it. If you only need to change a few words in a PDF, the PDF editor does that in your browser.
