Extract pages from a PDF

Take just the pages you need out of a long PDF. Type them as a range like 2-4, 9 and get a new PDF with only those pages, or save every page as its own file. The original is not changed, and the PDF never leaves your browser.

Extract PDF pages without uploading

Sometimes one page is all anyone needs: the signed page of a contract, a single invoice from a year of statements, the two pages of a manual that cover your model. Extracting copies those pages into a new PDF and leaves the long original as it is. Here it happens in your browser. The PDF is read from your device and the new file is made there too, so nothing is uploaded.

You can work on one PDF at a time, up to 60 MB and 500 pages. As soon as the file is in, the number of pages is shown under the box where you type, so you know the range you can use.

How to extract pages from a PDF

Keep Page range selected and type the pages you want. Single pages are numbers, runs of pages use a dash, and commas separate them, as in 2-4, 9. Spaces do not matter. Press Split PDF, or Enter, and you get one new PDF that holds only those pages.

Pages go into the new file in the order you type them. Typing 9, 2-4 puts page 9 first and pages 2, 3 and 4 after it, which helps when you want a summary page at the front. A page you type twice is only included once. Each run has to count up, from a lower page to a higher one, and every page has to exist. If the range does not fit the file, a short message tells you how many pages the PDF has, and nothing is saved until the range is right.

The new file keeps the original name and adds the pages you took, so pages 2 to 4 and 9 of report.pdf become report-pages-2-4_9.pdf. Its size is shown next to the download button.

Extract every page as its own PDF

Choose Every page instead of Page range to turn the whole document into single-page files. They are numbered like the original, report-page-1.pdf, report-page-2.pdf and so on, each with its own download button, and Download all saves them together in one ZIP file. This suits a stack of scanned receipts or forms saved as one PDF, where each page goes somewhere different. For a long document, a page range is quicker when you only need a few pages.

Every page works on files of up to 500 pages, but each page becomes a complete PDF, so a very long document takes a while. If you need, say, three separate parts of a file, it is often easier to extract each part with Page range: press Start over and drop the file again between them, and you get three files with clear names.

Extracted pages stay exactly as they were

Extracted pages are copied, not redrawn as pictures. Text that could be selected and searched in the original still can be, images keep their quality and each page keeps its size and orientation. The list of bookmarks some long PDFs show in the sidebar is not copied. A PDF that needs a password to open has to have the password removed first.

To pick pages by looking at them instead of by number, delete PDF pages shows a thumbnail of every page so you can remove the ones you do not need. To put the extracted pages together with pages from another file, merge PDF combines them into one document.
